Last week, I had a nasty job to do. We had moved the chickens to the pasture with the goats and our 2 potbellied pigs, because we are building a woodworking shop in the former chicken residence, which is also attached to the (at the time) spider-infested well house. My job was to beat these two areas into submission so they would be prepped for workshop construction.

Cleaning the chicken coop at any time is a nasty job, but combining it with the Well House Spider Eradication project increased the filthy factor exponentially. I was not enthusiastic.

I’m guessing we have all had those dirty jobs that made us feel like we could not possibly get clean enough after, and this was one of those times. As I was standing in the shower staring at the 8 bars of soap on the shelf (we’ll call it ‘product testing’ and not ‘compulsive soap addiction’) I decided not a damned one of them was going to be strong enough. I used one anyway, then went to work with the mission of creating the formula to remove the stankiest of stank.

Enter “The Fumigator”, so named because I was in a bad mood about my aforementioned nasty task. The purpose was to feel like no bacteria, bug, or odor could survive its wrath. I created it with all of the best grime and oil busting ingredients as well as exfoliants, including lemon zest, banana purée, cucumber juice, sea salt, and oatmeal, but I also wanted to make sure that we didn’t lose any of the skin conditioning properties of all of our soap, so it contains all 8 of our usual base oils and butters and well as aloe juice. Finally, I blended cucumber fragrance and spearmint essential oil for that refreshing minty finish.

I was not in the mood for beauty, but for function, so I did not pretty it up at all. I should have, because after using it for several days, I have unexpectedly fallen in love with it, and I’m afraid it will be overlooked; it is currently hands down my favorite, only surpassed perhaps by the Fabulous Face Soap that I use every day.

Every time I work the store, folks ask me which is in the soapmaker’s shower. While I love them all and am particularly amorous toward the snarky four letter word ones, this is the one I swipe for myself. 😉 ~Kendra
